Brighton 2:2 Liverpool: Football fans divided on Reds’ penalty, claim it was too soft

Football fans have come up with an interesting theory on why Liverpool were handed a penalty in the game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

A thrilling encounter between the two sides did not disappoint as they both tested each other out in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Simon Adingra opened the scoring for Brighton, firing a shot past Alisson in the 20th minute after catching out Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool pressed for an equalizer, and it came just before halftime as Brighton’s Lewis Dunk’s misplaced pass led to Darwin Nunez picking out Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian did the rest for his fourth Premier League goal of the campaign.

There was still time for more drama as Liverpool were awarded a penalty at the stroke of halftime after Pascal Gross appeared to Dominik Szoboszlai, as cited on BBC.

Salah stepped up from 12 yards and made it 2-1 to Liverpool, albeit controversially.

Was the penalty claim too soft?

Fans on social media reacted to the Gross penalty incident by claiming match officials were doing some ‘compensating’ for the error they made against Liverpool last week.

"Not a penalty. But LIVERPOOL won't cry because it favours them."

@SyBoyce83 added:

"Liverpool are going to get Every VAR decision today and probably for the rest of the season it is pretty much nailed on."

@UTD_Frapp said:

"Another soft pen for Liverpool. Must be nice to get these."
While @j_Amufc said:

"They were always going to get stuff given this week by VAR to make up for it. So odd"

Dunk made amends for a lackluster first half with a goal as his first time finish from Solly March’s free kick levelled matters once again.
