Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt shocks Nigerians with his most-streamed artist in 2025

Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Julian Brandt has shocked the Nigerian populace after revealing the artist he listened to the most in 2025, Soccernet.ng reports.

Over the last decade, Afrobeat has become a global phenomenon, rocking the entertainment industry and taking it over by storm.

Several artists like Burna boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Asake, Fireboy DML, and even Skales soared to heights unknown with their foreign tours this year, with the latter resurrecting his ‘shake body' hit song from 2015, thanks to a Lamine Yamal dance video.

A typical German midfielder born in Bremen, although he understands English, Brandt isn't comfortable speaking his second language.

Perhaps due to the influence of another player with Nigerian heritage, Karim Adeyemi, in the Schwarzgelben dressing room, Brandt's most-streamed artist for 2025 is Olamide Baddo.

In a post published on Dortmund's official social media handle, the players were quizzed on the artists they listened to the most over the year.

Olamide was the only Nigerian artist amongst the musicians that the Dortmund players listened to. This highlights the global impact of the music that emanates from the African continent.

Olamide Adedeji is loved en masse on the streets of Nigeria, such that Werder Bremen's Victor Boniface had to park his car on the streets to enjoy the concert the artist held in London.

His body of work has seen him rack up over 2.5 billion streams across all audio streaming platforms. The 36-year-old was also the first African rapper to hit a billion streams on Spotify.

Brandt's Dortmund are currently third on the Bundesliga table, nine points behind Bayern Munich.
