Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka has expressed his love for people of African descent.

The former Arsenal captain became the latest player to win a league title after joining another club following Bayer Leverkusen's 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen at the Bay Arena on Sunday, April 14.

Xhaka played a pivotal role in Xabi Alonso’s squad, contributing significantly to their successful campaign that saw Bayern Munich dethroned.

Speaking in an interview after Leverkusen's historic Bundesliga triumph the Swiss international said:

"I grew up with a lot of African people. One of my best friends, he is from Ghana and Togo."

"I love the culture, the mentality, how kind they are to other people. We grew up like this with a lot of respect."

"You can see this football club is more than special... you can't see that everywhere. Big respect to the club, but also to the families who support us."
