Bassey reveals short term goal at Ajax

Calvin Bassey Calvin Bassey

Calvin Bassey is determined to adapt to the Ajax style of football amid sharp criticisms from fans and club legends over his performance.

The 22-year-old has received several backlashes from all around with some critics of the notion that he is good enough to feature for the Eredivisie champions.

Bassey has fallen on the pecking order at Ajax following the sacking of coach Alfred Schreuder following a string of poor results.

Having made make 16 starts across all competitions under the former boss, the Super Eagles defender has been coming off the bench under new interim manager, John Heitinga.

Despite being relegated to the bench, the Leicester City academy product says he is unfazed by his current situation at the club.

“I think it’s a wonderful club with a lot of history. When you go to a club as big as Ajax there will always be certain expectations, Bassey told Ajax Showtime.

“I want to better understand Ajax’s style and adapt myself to it. I want the style to suit me more. That’s my goal now.

“I can do anything as long as I want it bad enough,” Bassey concluded.

Bassey came off the bench to supply an assist and Ajax beat Waalwijk 3-1 in the Eredivisie.
