Asisat Oshoala has stated that the fact that no Nigerian casted their vote for her to emerge the African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards only made her victory "more sweet".

The CAF Awards ceremony which took place in Egypt saw Oshoala beat Cameroon's Ajara Nchout and South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana. The victory saw her equal the record of four-time winner held by Super Falcons legend, Perpetua Nkwocha.

It has been revealed that the five Nigerians who voted in the contest voted against Oshoala. Perpetua voted her to emerge fifth.

Ahmed Fresh of NFF Technical Committee didn't vote at all. Journalist Osasu Obayiwana voted for Oshoala to come third; Chisom Mboni voted her to come 2nd, while Tunde Adelakun also voted her to come second.

Reacting to the news that she was snubbed by fellow Nigerians on the voting process, Oshoala tweeted:

"It only made the victory more sweet .....CHILD OF THE CONTINENT. It’s a blessing to know how much lives I’ve touched and inspired across AFRICA in my young age. All love from this side".
