Asisat Oshoala is backing home country Nigeria to overthrow Senegal as African champions when the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations concludes in Ivory Coast.

The six-time CAF Player of the Year has outlined the Super Eagles possess quality players like Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, who can lead the charge for a fourth continental title for Nigeria.

According to The Nation, Oshoala, who noted that Nigeria has a good squad, cautioned the Super Eagles to play as a team and not as individuals to stand a chance of winning the AFCON.

“We have the almighty Victor Osimhen, who is the best player in Africa now, and we have (Victor) Boniface doing very well with his club (Leverkusen).

“But generally, I think we have a very good team, and it’s not only about individual talents, and I think we have a good time to build towards the tournament.”

The Super Eagles will trade tackles with host nation Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau in Group A of the tournament, which is set to take place from January 13 to February 11.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will play two friendlies in January against Burkina Faso and Cape Verde ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, Punch reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation submitted a provisional 41-man squad to the Confederation of African Football last week, with the final 27-man roster set to be announced on January 3.

The Super Eagles will begin their AFCON 2023 campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14 at the Ebimpe Olympic Stadium before facing hosts Ivory Coast on January 18 and Guinea Bissau on January 22.
