Aribo explains why joining Southampton from Rangers was a difficult decision

Joe Aribo Joe Aribo

Nigerian international Joe Aribo has admitted that moving from Glasgow Rangers to Premier League side Southampton was a difficult decision.

The 26-year-old joined the Saints from the Gers in a deal worth £10m after helping the Scottish giant to secure Champions League qualification following a brilliant performance in the Europa League which saw his side finish as runners-up.

In a recent interview, the Nigerian international explained that it was his dream to play in both the Champions League and the Premier League, but he had to sacrifice one for the other by moving to the St Mary's Stadium.

“It’s a dream for me too, of course, to play Champions League, but I am also living my dream playing in the Premier League, Aribo told the club's website.

“I couldn’t have both at the time, so I think for me it’s a very good decision.

Southampton are currently 16th in the Premier League with one point above the relegation zone.

Despite their poor start to the campaign, Aribo is confident that his side can pull through.

“It’s one that I’m not surprised about. I know the Prem wasn’t going to be an easy task.

“Playing against teams, you could see the shift in quality in every single team. Every team has got quality.

“Some results haven’t been the best, but we are still growing, we are still learning, and I think as a team we are going to come through,” Aribo said.
