'Anything can happen' - Genk boss refuses to rule out Onuachu's exit in January

The Nigerian attacker has been heavily linked with a move away from Cegeka Arena in the last two seasons, and he could be on his way out this winter.

Genk head of football Dmitri De Conde is unsure if Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will remain at the club if a good offer comes in January.

Onuachu has been one of the best strikers in the Belgian Jupiler League in the last three seasons. This season, the big Nigerian striker’s efficacy has not reduced, as he has struck 14 goals in 15 appearances for the Limburgers.

The 28-year-old hitman has been heavily linked with a move away from Belgium in recent years and many clubs have been mentioned. Fiorentina, Arsenal, West Ham, Lyon, and Atletico Madrid are some of the top clubs associated with Onuachu.

However, a deal has not been able to come off. In the next transfer window in January, it is expected that offers will arrive for Onuachu, but Genk chief De Conde is not sure of where the pendulum will swing.

“Onuachu’s situation remains something special,” De Conde told Het Laatste Nieuws as per Voetbal Primeur.

“At his age, you never know what will happen. If an offer comes, we can’t just block it. But then Wouter and I will do everything we can to convince him to stay,”

Genk will be willing to let Onuachu leave for around €25million. With what the Nigerian striker has shown this season, it will be difficult for Genk to keep him for long.
