The ever-eventful Madrid derby between Atleti and city rivals Real Madrid headlined La Liga's match round six of the 2023/24 season.

The game which laced with fireworks, was lit up in the fourth minute after a sublime cross from winger Samu Lino was headed in by former Los Blancos man Alvaro Morata.

Antoine Griezmann widened the gap between both sides as he converted another header from a Saul Niguez cross.

As reported by Marca, a stunner from Toni Kroos would provide temporary hope for fans of the visiting side.

However, a 46th minute strike by Morata would eventually condemn Carlo Ancelotti's side to their first defeat of the season after he converted a sublime cross from Real Madrid academy graduate Saul.

Following the victory, Griezmann took time to address the media, and at the conclusion of his presser, he sent a cheeky message to children who supported Atleti across the Spanish capital.

The 32-year-old attacker was visibly elated by his team's performance on the night and, as quoted by Football Espana at the conclusion of his interview he said:

"And tomorrow, go to school in your Atleti shirt, kids."
The victory saw Los Rojiblancos bring an end to their two-game winless run which included the 3-0 defeat suffered to Valencia and the UEFA Champions League draw away at Lazio.
