Nigerians on social media have reacted differently to Victor Osimhen's place on ESPN's latest ranking for the most lethal strikers in the world during the 2022/20233 football season.

Osimhen, who was the poster boy for Napoli as they clinched the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years was ranked fourth behind Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Karim Benzema, formerly of Real Madrid, Harry Kane of Spurs.

The latest ranking by ESPN was contested on social media by some football enthusiasts who were of the opinion that the 24-year-old should be ranked above Kane.

In a separate ranking by transfermarkt on the most valuable striker, Osimhen was ranked third. Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Paris-Saint Germain's Kylian Mbappe, Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan completed the list.

Norwegian international, Erling Haaland and France captain Kylian Mbappe share the same market value of 180 million euros.

Nigeria's Victor Osimhen follows in third place with an estimated market value of 120 million euros.

Reacting, Sports journalist Oma Akatugba in an interview with TVC news faulted the ranking as unfair as he believes the Napoli talisman should be ranked ahead of the PSG star.

He explained that Victor Osimhen propelled an average Napoli side to their first Scudetto title in 33 years while Mbappe played in a star-studded PSG team.

He added that the Italian Serie A is more competitive than the French Ligue 1 making Osimhen who netted 26 league goals last season a better striker among the two.

In a nutshell, he concluded that it is more difficult to win with Napoli than Paris Saint Germain.
