Andre Onana breaks silence with elite statement after getting lobbed from 40 yards

Andre Onana showed elite mentality by admitting his fault in the concession of Manchester United’s first goal against RC Lens on Saturday, August 5.

After conceding a goal from 40 yards in his first game at Old Trafford, the Cameroon international was a hot topic for most of the afternoon.

ARC Lens took a shock lead in the 23rd minute as Florian Sotoca noticed Onana was off his line and decided to attempt an audacious chip.

It paid off as Onana was caught in no man’s land as he clutched at air trying to quell the ball from finding the net.

United however came rejuvenated in the second half and found three quick goals through Marcus Rashford, Antony and Casemiro to secure their first win in four pre-season games.

Speaking after the game, Onana did not mop or try to downplay RC Lens’ goal as he took responsibility on his part.

“I’m happy for the win. Of course we can always be better," he told MUTV.
"Some things we have to try to fix. Like I always say, I am responsible for everything, especially when we concede goals.”

“I’m the big man at the back so I take all the criticism, all the pressure on me. It was a great game for me and for the guys, some important goals and I’m happy for everything.”

Cheeky fans drew comparisons to Onana’s statement to those of former United goalie David De Gea, who clapped back at critics in January in the wake of fierce criticism.

At the time, De Gea said, per SportBible: "I have nothing to prove. I have already shown my qualities for many years. I know people love to talk but I'm used to that.
