In the wake of calls to sack Jose Peseiro as Head Coach of Super Eagles following his unimpressive record since taking over in May last year, former Nigeria international Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed interest in the Super Eagles coaching job.

The Portuguese gaffer has managed just 2 wins in 8 matches for the Super Eagles since taking over from interim coach Augustine Eguavoen.

His only victories came against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe in the Nations Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles have lost their last four matches to Costa Rica, Algeria, Portugal and Guinea-Bissau.

It is the first time in 42 years that the Nigerians had lost four matches in a row as per The Punch.

Speaking in an interview with News Central, Amuneke who has served as an assistant coach of the national team disclosed his interest in the Super Eagles coaching role.

“I’ve never coached the Super Eagles, I’ve only gone twice to assist someone but coaching Super Eagles on my own I have not.

“But of course Nigeria is my country and the national team we are all part of it and when the opportunity comes and Nigerians feel that we can add something to the national team of course it’s a welcome development.”

The former African Player of The Year has managed clubs in Nigeria, Sudan and Egypt and was also once in charge of the Nigeria U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets and the Tanzania national team.
