The immediate past president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, is backing Finidi George to become the next Super Eagles coach on a permanent basis.

Nigeria continues to search for a coach following the departure of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro whose contract expired in February.

Finidi led the team to the friendly matches against Ghana and Mali last month, but the results from both matches have left the NFF board in a dilemma on whom to appoint.

The Super Eagles defeated the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1, but lost 2-0 to the Eagles of Mali, leaving stakeholders with divided opinions.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers returning in June, the NFF continues to shop for a new gaffer and Pinnick finds Finidi fit for the position.

The FIFA Council executive said on Arise TV, as per Punch:

“A player that was once regarded as one of the best wingers in the world.
A player that played and like interned under one of the best coaches in the world Louis Van Gaal. At Real Betis he was excellent.

At Ajax, if you know Ajax, you should know that they believe in developmental football.

So, he has all the qualities. So, what do we need? This is my strong personal opinion.”
