Abia Warriors ended their four-game winless run in the league after a victory over Kwara United on Sunday, July, 11.

The Abia-based side won by 2-1 after initially beating Zamfara United 5-0 in the Aiteo Cup.

The Imama Amapakabo tutored side fell behind in the ninth minute of the game when Jide Fatokun gave the visitors the lead. Jide Fatokun connected with a cross to send a volley past goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke from 25 yards, Brila.net said.

Paul Samson restored the parity for Abia Warriors with 20 minutes remaining in the game when he beat Kwara United’s goalkeeper from 15 yards. The goal was assisted by Chukwuemeka Obioma.

Godwin Obaje wasted a glorious chance to put Abia Warriors in front three minutes later. The striker failed to score from close range after Samuel Christian dribbled past Kwara United defenders to put the chance on the plate for him.

With few minutes left to stoppage time, Obioma Chukwuemeka took advantage of the defensive error of Kwara United to win the game for Abia Warriors.

With the result, Abia Warriors however increased their points tally to 36 from matches, while Kwara United slipped to sixth with 52 points.
