Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on January 13, Nigeria's president, Bola Tinubu, has approved an incentive of $1.3 million for the Super Eagles.

The Nigerian team are camped in Abu Dhabi and are expected to reach the host nation on January 9 before their first group-stage game against Equatorial Guinea.

The three-time African champions have been drawn in Group A, which also includes the hosts, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.

As coach, Jose Peseiro continues to prepare his side for the continental showpiece, President Tinubu has boosted the morale of the squad by a huge amount.

The Nigerian national team technical crew and players are expected to be paid their backlog of salaries and match bonuses from this money, BSN reports.

The West African nation has adopted the theme of 'Let's do it again' for the tournament as they gun for their fourth AFCON title.

Nigeria won their first continental trophy in 1980 and then in 1994 before winning the prize for a third time in 2013.

Meanwhile, the team will miss out on the services of Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, who suffered an injury while playing for his club.

The technical crew has named Royal Antwerp midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf as a replacement, with the 23-year-old earning his first-ever national team call-up.
