9 points, no excuses - Nigerians reacted to Super Eagles AFCON draw

The AFCON draw The AFCON draw

Nigerians on social media have reacted to the 2023 African Cup of Nations draw that was held on Thursday, October 12.

The three-time champions will face two-time champions Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau.

The group has been labeled by the Nigerian football community as the ‘Group of Death’.

While stakeholders have reacted with optimism to the draw, Nigerians on social media believe the Super Eagles can be group winners.

The Eagles won the 1980 edition of the AFCON on home soil, before going on to win the 1994 and 2013 editions in Tunisia and South Africa respectively.

The 34th edition of the AFCON scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 will be hosted by Ivory Coast across five cities.

Previous meetings against Ivory Coast in the AFCON have not been entirely productive. Nigeria have lost two of their last three meetings in the competition.

However, the last time both countries met, Nigeria emerged victorious, beating the Elephants 2-1 in the run-up to their 2013 AFCON victory.
