'6-0 is very good' – Peseiro reacts to Super Eagles trashing of São Tomé and Príncipe

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro says the team played with commitment after trashing their AFCON qualifier group rivals, São Tomé and Príncipe on Sunday, September 10.

The Super Eagles defeated the Parrots 6-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium thanks to goals from Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, Samuel Chukwueze, and a Victor Osimhen hat-trick.

It was goals galore in the reverse feature with the Eagles winning 10-0.

With top spot in the group already secured, many suggested that the Super Eagles didn’t have much to do in terms of putting on the best performances to ensure the win.

Peseiro, who recently signed a contract that will see him take charge of the Super Eagles team at the AFCON competition in Ivory Coast at the start of next year, was delighted with the football his team put on display and commended the teams commitment.

“Our players played with maximum commitment. They want to play for me. I assembled them to win AFCON Cup, and today, they have shown good commitment in their play,” Peseiro told the media.

The 63-year-old says that teams tend to relax when they face small opposition stressing that his players didnt do that.

“Normally, if you play against a team that is not strong, everybody relaxes, but today they did not relax. It is a fantastic game by the players, 6-0 is very good.”

The win yesterday sealed Nigeria’s position as first in the group, meanwhile, São Tomé and Príncipe are out of contention for a place at the 2023 AFCON finals.
