Manchester City are on the charge towards a historic Treble after a fine season under Pep Guardiola - imagine how strong they would be with the greatest player of all time.

With Lionel Messi set to leave PSG at the expiration of his contract this summer, having been suspended by the club, Barcelona lead the chase as well as sides in Saudi Arabia.

However, should the 35-year-old fancy testing his unrivalled ability in the Premier League before calling time on his career, a reunion with his former boss might well suit.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is yet to play in the league many define as the best in world football - and this summer could be his last chance.

Daily Star Sport have taken a look at how City could line-up with the Argentinian World Cup hero in their ranks, which would no doubt delight Erling Haaland.

With Ederson in goal, Nathan Ake is set to continue at left-back following a solid campaign, with Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and John Stones joining him in defence.

In midfield, Rodri is a mainstay with Bernardo Silva and the majestic Kevin De Bruyne, with Jack Grealish earning his starting XI spot in recent weeks.

That leaves Haaland down the middle with Messi on the right, a combination enough to strike fear into the hearts of opposing defenders thanks to their devastating finishing and creative ability respectively.

Julian Alvarez would be pushing for a starting berth, aided by his relationship with Messi, but Messi's potential arrival could see Riyad Mahrez pushing for a move.

Man City possible XI (4-3-3)

Ederson; Ake, Stones, Dias, Walker; Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva; Messi, Haaland, Grealish.
