39 wins and 30 defeats: Finidi George's NPFL record as he assumes Super Eagles role

On Monday, April 29, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) concluded its exhaustive search for the next Super Eagles head coach, prompted by the departure of José Peseiro.

The Portuguese gaffer left his role after the African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire despite guiding the team to the grand finale.

In a statement, the NFF named Enyimba coach Finidi George as the new head coach for the Super Eagles, following his 20-month tenure as an assistant to José Peseiro.

The former Ajax forward also served as an interim coach after the departure of the ex-Sporting CP manager, handling the team in friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March.

The 56-year-old gained popularity among most fans after his appointment as head coach of Enyimba back in 2021.

The former Real Betis star guided Enyimba FC to the NPFL title last season further showing his readiness for the big stage.

The 1994 AFCON winner participated in a total of 88 matches, clinching 39 wins, 30 losses, and 19 draws, as per Pulsesports
