2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Ahmed Musa laments lack of experience in current Super Eagle squad

Ahmed Musa has lamented the lack of enough experienced players in the current Super Eagles squad as they continue to struggle to get results.

Nigeria have begun the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on a poor note, with 1-1 draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Jose Peseiro’s side were forced to a draw at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on November 16, and they could only manage the same result against Zimbabwe in Rwanda.

With two points from those two games, the Super Eagles still have a lot to do if they hope to qualify for the World Cup billed to be hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Musa, who missed out on the November matches, lamented that some fans have mismanaged their passion for the national team, causing some big stars to leave.

He also called on the inclusion of more experienced players in the Nigerian team, in a bid to inspire better performances from the younger players.

Musa said, as per Soccernet:

"As you can see, we still need someone like Mikel Obi in the team, we still need Victor Moses. It’s not just about having young players in the team because you need players to mentor them, which we don’t have right now."

He also appealed to the media to 'take it easy' on the younger players as the pressure on them was intense.

"That is why, once they step onto the pitch to play, they worry because they are concerned about what they will see on their Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts."
