2023 African Games: Rufai laments unpaid bonuses, allowances for athletes

Rufai laments unpaid allowances and bonuses for athletes at the African Games Rufai laments unpaid allowances and bonuses for athletes at the African Games

Renowned TV broadcaster Rufai Oseni has expressed his disappointment over the alleged unpaid allowances and bonuses of some Nigerian athletes from the last edition of the African Games.

According to reports, some athletes who represented Team Nigeria in Accra are yet to receive their bonuses two months after the games concluded.

Speaking on the Arise TV morning show, correspondent Ebi Iyomon disclosed to Rufai that some wrestlers and badminton players and some officials who represented Nigeria at the 13th edition of the games have not been paid by the sports ministry.

Nigeria finished second on the medal table with a total count of 120 medals (47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze). Only Egypt, with a total haul of 189 medals, won more than Nigeria.

Rufai believes this situation sends a poor signal to the athletes, especially with the 2024 Olympic Games on the horizon.
