2023 AFCON: Sadio Mane names tournament favourites

Senegalese international Sadio Mane has named Nigeria and Ghana among the favourites to win next year's African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Bayern Munich star has tipped the Super Eagles and the Black Stars together with the Pharaohs of Egypt, the Atlas Lions of Morocco, and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as huge favourites to win the next edition of the AFCON.

“The AFCON is full of surprises, but we know the usual best teams like the hosts, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Algeria and Cameroon," he said, as quoted by Joueurs Cameronais.

The Super Eagles have already sealed qualification for next year's showdown following their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in the penultimate stage.

Ghana on the other hand are yet to qualify for the tournament following their goalless draw against Madagascar in their last game.

The Super Eagles last won the Nations Cup 10 years ago in South Africa after beating Burkina Faso by a lone goal in the finals.
