16 teams battle for World Cup quarterfinal slots live on DStv, GOtv

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is at the business end. The stakes are higher, as the boys are now being separated from the men. DStv and GOtv will broadcast all round of sixteen matches live from Saturday December 3 from 4pm.

Here is a round up of the teams battling for the quarterfinal tickets:

The Atlas Lions: Morocco is one of the surprise packages in Qatar after playing a draw with Croatia and a win against Belgium. The North Africans will now face Spain who managed to finish Second in Group E.

Brazil: It has been twenty years since Brazil last won the World Cup. Brazil is the most successful nation in World Cup history having won it five times. They top the list of favourites to win it in Qatar and will now face one of the tournament surprise packages, South Korea.

Les Bleus: France became the first defending champions to make it into the knockout round since 2006. France will take on Poland led by Robert Lewandowski. Poland managed to edge Mexico for the second spot in Group D and would be hoping for such luck against the world champions.

Albiceleste: Led by the mercurial Messi, Argentina recovered from one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history to top Group C. They will face The Socceroos of Australia who surprisingly qualified from a group comprising of France, Tunisia and Denmark.

Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal had no problem making it into the round of sixteen after recording victories in two group stage matches. The Iberians will face Switzerland who finished second with six points in Group G.

Oranje Boys: After missing out on the 2018 World Cup, Netherlands would hope to compensate their fans by going into the later stages of the tournament in Qatar. But they will have to overcome the United State of America who has one of the youngest teams in the World Cup. Their bravery saw them through the group stage, and they would want to consolidate their progress when they face the Netherlands.

Croatia: The 2018 runner up finished second ahead of Belgium. They now face one of the surprise packages of the tournament, The Blue Samurai of Japan, who beat Germany and Spain to top spot in Group E.
