VIDEO: Banker cries out against unfair contract staff agreement by First Bank

First Bank Nigeria First Bank Nigeria

A staff of First Bank Nigeria, identified as Maiye Oluwakemi Ruth, has cried out against what she calls an unfair agreement the bank has with contract staffs.

The banker took to Instagram to share her grievance and called on the Federal Government and every meaningful Nigerian to come to the rescue of contract staff by intervening in the agreement.

In the viral video, Oluwakemi who has worked as a contract staff with First Bank Nigeria since 2014 can be seen crying bitterly.

She stated specifically that " working in the bank is time-consuming... We give our all and our time building these institutions and nothing is given to us back."

She also said that as contract staff, they're not entitled to benefits, including loans, regardless of the amount of time and effort they have given to the bank.

"We are not entitled to bonuses when it's obvious that we contribute to the bank's progress year in year out," she added.

She also said that after spending about a decade of their lives with the bank, having being recruited at an early age, they're let off without y compensation.

The banker opened up on job insecurities at the bank after over 1,000 contract staffs were retrenched recently, raising fears that she may fall victim, as the exercise is done yearly.

She added that these victims "have been thrown into devastation" that can lead to "depression" and engagement in "dubious things" for survival.

She, however, pleaded with the Nigerian government to look into these agreements before youths sign up.
