Ramadan: Saudi Arabia will not be breaking their fast this Saturday. Here is why

Saudi Arabia's fast is not ending anytime soon.

It will not end tomorrow, Saturday as expected.

The Middle Eastern nation will carry on their fast for an extra day since the moon signalling the end of the fast has not yet been sighted.

"The Eid-Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday 24th May 2020. In sha Allah," a Twitter account, HaraminInfo says.

Traditionally, Ramadan begins with the sighting of the crescent moon, which generally appears one night after the new moon, meaning the start date cannot be precisely predicted.

Eid al-Fitr works in exactly the same way, with the sighting of the new crescent moon which brings the end of Ramadan and the onset of the month of Shawwal, the tenth of the Islamic Hijri calendar.

"Eid al-Fitr, also called the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. This religious Eid is the first and only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast," Wikipedia says.
