The convicted Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara, has told the Upper Shari'a court in Kano to quicken the execution of the death sentence passed against him, adding that he was not afraid to die.

According to Daily Nigerian, Ibrahim Sarki-Yola of the Shari'a court sentenced Kabara to death by handing on Thursday, December 15.

Kabara was prosecuted for blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the session of some of his preachings.

The religious leader, who spoke shortly after the judgment was passed, called for the immediate execution of the ruling, adding that he was ready to die an honourable death.

He urged his supporters not to worry about his death because he will meet his creator in an honourable manner.

Kabara said he would not beg the judge to tamper justice with mercy but called on the court to expedite action in executing the judgment.

The religious leader accused Sarki-Yola of distorting his evidence to favour the prosecutors.

Kabara told the judge that: “I listened to how you twisted my defense. You turned all my evidence upside down.”

Sarki-Yola expressed conviction while delivering the judgment that the evidence tendered by the prosecuting counsels declared that they proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the house of representatives, has vowed that he would continue to criticise the presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The lawmaker revealed that he and Kwankwaso are long-time family friends, but because of politics, Kwankwaso refused to send him condolence when his father died.

Doguwa said Kwankwaso and his family were so close that he would sometime come to their family house to pass nights together with him.
