Not more than eleven people lost their lives after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision at Okhuahe community on the Benin-Agbor Road, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The reports indicate that 7 other people sustained various degrees of injuries during the fatal crash that happened on Saturday, January 20.
An eyewitness who spoke to Daily Trust said the accident occurred when the driver of an 18-seater bus heading towards Lagos dangerously overtook another vehicle and had a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle.
The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the accident.
He said the accident involved a truck and an 18-seater bus.
He said 11 died on the spot while seven others sustained injuries.
According to him, the bus attempted to overtake another vehicle and, in the process, had a head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle, killing 11 people on the spot. He said the corpses were evacuated to the morgue while the injured ones were taken to the hospital for treatment.
