Nigerians commend Sanwo-Olu for his Clean Up Lagos exercise

Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has recently taken to social media to warn residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He said this while sharing a video of an area in Lagos called Amuwo Odofin which has been notorious for dumping of refuse on the roadsides.

The Clean Up exercise in Lagos was aimed at getting rid of waste and reducing pollution. This move he said is in collaboration with @Lawma_gov, @LasepaOfficial, @LAGESCOfficial, as well as other agencies.

He therefore called on all residents to support the Clean Up of Lagos.

Taking to his X page on Monday, November 6, Sanwo-Olu wrote;

“The Clean Up of Lagos, getting rid of waste and reducing pollution is a shared vision and collective effort that demands out-of-the-box thinking and extreme discipline.

When I moved @tokunbo_wahab to the role of Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, it was because I saw passion and pragmatism as well as the discipline required to do the difficult things.

Working closely with @Lawma_gov, @LasepaOfficial, @LAGESCOfficial, as well as other agencies, they have hit the ground running in the efforts to clean up Lagos.

This is a very good example of clearing and regenerating an illegal dumpsite in Amuwo Odofin.

A lot of such projects are going on across the state and I need the support of ALL residents in achieving the success of this goal.

Stop indiscriminate dumping. Bag your waste. Patronise PSP operators.

Reacting to the move, some Nigerians took to his comment section to share their thoughts;

@ayoakande: Keep up the good work. A city’s appearance is super important to its perceived value. I’m glad we have a govt that understands this.

raji2: Before there was refuse, it was cleared... Good work, but where are the waste bins???? There should be legislation on compulsory procurement of waste bins in every home. This can be subsidised by the state government partnering with producers to create jobs away from palliatives

@Farouq__SG: Plant flowers there if not by next week it'll go back to the way it was.

@odogwu_1: Well done Sir…you are doing great but I implore you you put measures in place to maintain the environment

@adeshtech: This is commendable, but can you start arresting people who try to mess up Lagos. Once you are caught throwing refuse on the road, 2 weeks of community service of packing refuse no begging
