Women protest against rape in Lagos

Members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Women Commission, on Thursday, August 20, 2020 protested against rape at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The women, about 50, and accompanied by men, were led by the Chairperson of the group, Comrade Oluyemisi Oyejide.

The protesters chanted solidarity songs and displayed placards with inscriptions such as:

1. Women are not sex toys

2. Any gender can be a victim of rape

3. Say no to rape,

4. Start raising responsible children

5. No to rape is a collective responsibility

6. Future mothers deserve protection.

Victor Akande, who addressed the protesters on behalf of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, said the case would be taken back to the Speaker.
