The woman, identified as Joy Sunday poured the water on the face of the victim, Justina Ameh as some worshippers tried to keep the assailant from causing further harm.

Ameh is accused of having an affair with Sunday's husband.

Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement yesterday that the victim’s sister, one Kelechi Samuel, reported the incident.

Ameh and her sister were at a church vigil in the Agbado area of the state when the suspect entered the church with a container of hot water and poured it on Ameh’s face, police said, quoting the victim’s sister Kelechi.

“The suspect, Joy Sunday, explained that the victim has been accusing her of sleeping with her husband for quite some time now, and all efforts to disabuse her mind from it proved abortive.

“On that fateful day, while they were in the church, the victim came as usual and started raining curses on her. While she tried to walk away from her, the victim pulled her back and tore her cloth.

“It was that annoyance that made her to go home and boiled water which she brought back to the church and poured it on the victim’s face.

“When asked whether or not she was dating the victim’s husband, the suspect said she could swear with anything that there was nothing between her and the victim’s husband,” Abimbola said.
