The victory of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in the Adamawa State governorship election has generated mixed reactions from several high-profile Nigerians.

Fintiri who contested on the platform of the PDP secured 430,861 votes to defeat Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 398,788 votes.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in a tweet on Tuesday said Fintiri’s victory was “well deserved”.

“Thank you to the people of Adamawa and men and women of goodwill for staying the course in resisting coupists and enemies of democracy from having their way,” Abubakar wrote.

“The lesson from this exercise and others is the need for Nigerians to be vigilant and never give in to anti-democratic forces whose objective is to snatch, run with and undermine the mandate of the people as freely expressed in their votes.”

Abubakar added that the PDP has “one more major” mandate to reclaim.

“By the way, it is not yet uhuru as we still have one more major mandate to reclaim, and together as ONE, we shall accomplish the task for the good of our country and its people,” he said.

Popular on-air-personality Rufai Oseni who has been critical of INEC and the processes it introduced in the general election applauded the electoral body for hastily canceling the initial announcement by Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa Ari.

"Justice! Kudos INEC, Kudos Nigeria, Kudos judiciary for denying a frivolous exparte, Congrats to the winner, Congrats Democracy. I am sad for our country, the drama was unnecessary!" he tweeted.
