We’re ready for NLC - El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai

Kaduna State Government has said it is to squaring up with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the threat of another industrial action.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai, in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), also disclosed that he withdrew his son from public school in Kaduna because bandits threatened the pupils’ lives.

The governor, who condemned the threat by labour to engage in another strike in the state soon, accused the NLC of engaging in falsehood by alleging that the state government sacked workers.

His words: “The local councils, which are autonomous, have disengaged some employees because the they are facing more financial crisis than the state government. They were quicker in letting go some employees. I think they were about 2,000 mostly unqualified teachers and those who forged certificates and so on. The local councils have sacked some. Of course, I am being blamed for that, as if the state government controls the local councils.

“NLC is threatening to come back. We are ready for them. That is what we would say. We would not give them opportunity to jeopardise the lives of the people of Kaduna. We are ready for them and we are planning for them.”
