Tragedy: Two die in collapsed bunkering pit site

No fewer than two persons have reportedly died during the illegal bunkering of pipelines in the Orita J4 Pipeline Ogbere area of Ogun State.

It was gathered from a police source that the incident, which occurred on Christmas day, had both deceased victims trapped in the pit for hours before help could come.

A source at the Police Ogbere Division said some residents of the community had allegedly dug a deep pit for illegal bunkering, adding that the duo who were already in the pit got trapped when the pit caved in.

In separate images shared with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, the two lifeless bodies of the deceased suspects were seen covered in the mud and lying on the floor where the crime was suspected to have been committed.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the corpses had been deposited at a morgue for presentation.

She said, “One of the deceased suspects is called Super Asogbon. The other suspect is not known yet. The corpse had been taken to the Ajebandale morgue.”
