A video of an interview conservative statesman and one-time premier of Northern Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello granted to the international press has resurfaced.

The interview, which according to its title was granted in 1964 showed Ahmadu Bello give a vivid description of his representation of the Igbos.

"Well, the Igbos are more or less the type of people whose desire is mainly to dominate everybody," he responded when asked why the North were so obsessed about their counter part from the East.

He continued: "If you put them in a labor camp as a laborer, they will try to emerge as headman of that camp and so on."

His response brings to bear the deep-rooted rivalry and hate amongst two of Nigeria's largest ethnic groups.

It is believed the conflict amongst this dominant group of people lead to Nigeria's civil war led by Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu an Igbo Nigerian Army officer on January 15, 1966.

Sir Ahmadu Bello was assassinated in the coup alongside his long-time friend Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa alongside many political elites in the north and in the west. Hafsatu, Bello's senior wife died alongside him. He had three surviving daughters with another wife, Amina (Goggon Kano). His eldest daughter was Inno, followed by Aisha and Lubabatu.
