Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has vowed to pursue justice for the 13-year-old rape victim, Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje.
Ochanya died 2018 after battling Vesicovagina Fistula, VVF as a result of constant rape.
Her death, triggered the public outrageous with a series of protests in Benue State and other parts of the nation with the hashtag, #JusticeForOchanya
According to reports, Ochanya was allegedly raped for years by her aunt’s husband, one Andrew Ogbuja and his son, Victor Ogbuja.
Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer at the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, and his son, Victor, were accused of molesting Ochanya since she was 8.
They were also accused of having vaginal and anal sex with the little girl until she developed Vesicovagina Fistula, VVF.
The victim was buried on November 2, 2018 at Ogene-Amejo Village in Okpokwu Local Government of Benue State amid tears.
Recently, reports emerged indicating that the suspects were sighted in Lagos, triggering a fresh anger from Nigerians.
Reacting, a statement released on her social media page Thursday morning, Senator Natasha said she learned the suspects had been released.
She asked the family of the deceased to write a petition to her office so she could follow up with the case.
She wrote, “7 years ago the heart wrenching story of little Ochanya devastated me.
“I thought the perpetrators were in jail. Alas, they were discharged and acquitted.
“The family of the late Ochanya Ogbanje should write a petition to me:
“Senator Natasha Akpoti -Uduaghan,
Room 2:05 Senate Wing,
National Assembly Complex ,
Abuja.
“For our children, I stand for Justice for Ochanya”.
