Men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, on Monday, apprehended a truck driver involved in a hit-and-run incident at Anthony Oke, heading towards Oshodi Bus Stop.
The driver, operating a truck belonging to one of the flour mill companies in Apapa, with registration number JJJ 764 XV, alleged to be on top speed was apprehended after hitting a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the expressway, near the Total Filling Station, at Anthony Oke, inward Oshodi.
The incident, which occurred at about 11.45 am attracted passers-by, and motorists who offered first aid to the victim.
The pedestrian, who sustained a serious injury, including a broken left leg, was subsequently attended to by the personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, before he was conveyed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
As of press time, 2 pm, the state of the victim could not be ascertained whether he was responding to treatment following the severity of the injury.
According to report, LASTMA officials on duty at the time responded swiftly, and pursued the fleeing driver before he was intercepted and apprehended at Oshodi Oke.
He has since been handed over to officers from Mosafejo Police Station for further investigation and prosecution.
LASTMA, General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, while reacting to the incident, said the agency remained steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all road users in Lagos.
“The agency will continue to collaborate closely with law enforcement agents to bring traffic offenders to justice.
“Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we urge all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and prioritize the safety of pedestrians and other motorists,” Bakare-Oki urged.
