Prominent labour activist, Abiodun Aremu, will be buried on Thursday, October 23, according to the family and associates of the deceased.

Aremu was killed by a hit-and-run driver near his home in Ota, Ogun state, on October 12.

The statement by the family indicated that the burial will take place at his residence near Ijako Sugar bus stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Ogun state.

The burial committee said the funeral rites will span three parts, beginning with a day of tribute on Wednesday, October 22.

The tribute event, themed ‘Celebrating the Life of a steadfast people’s revolutionary’, will hold from 12pm to 4pm at the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NURSES HOUSE) Lagos state secretariat, located at 19 Amaraolu street, near Pearlworth Hotel and the New African Shrine in Ikeja.

The tribute session will be chaired by Femi Falana, the senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who also leads the burial committee.

Speakers will include representatives from labour unions, pro-democracy groups, human rights organisations, and the Cuban embassy.

The statement detailed that in the evening, comrades and associates will hold a candlelit procession and vigil at the deceased’s residence.

On Thursday morning, Aremu’s body will lie in state at the residence from 7am to 10am, followed by funeral eulogies and family tributes before the interment.
