Police detain House of Rep member-elect for displaying gun during in Kano

The police command in Kano has detained Aliyu Madakin Gini, a House of Reps member-elect in the just-concluded 2023 National Assembly elections on the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) platform, over illegal possession of a firearm.

Madaki will represent the Dala federal constituency in Kano State in the 10th House of Representatives.

According to the Leadership, Madaki was arrested by the police on Wednesday, March 1, after a picture of him carrying a pump action gun during a homecoming rally for the presidential candidate of the NNPP, Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso emerged online.

Armed thugs had attacked the convoy of the NNPP presidential candidate along Zaria road in Kano on Thursday, February 23, during the grand finale of his presidential campaign.

Madaki was said to have led a team to repel the attackers.

The Cable reports that when contacted on Thursday morning, March 2, the Kano police command’s spokesperson, Haruna Abdullahi, confirmed the development. Abdullahi said Madaki was still in police custody and that an investigation was ongoing.
