A policeman has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after he allegedly shot his ex-lover, Joy Eze, at Opebi, Ikeja.

The suspect, identified as Sergeant Eze Aiwansone, was said to have shot the victim on October 8 after he invited her on a date. The cop is attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU).

Aiwansone who fled after the alleged crime, was arrested by his elder brother, an Inspector of Police, and handed over to the command, spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in a statement Thursday evening, The Nations said.

“The State CID Panti has taken over the case on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, for further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police has warned police personnel in Lagos State to desist from any act that can tarnish the image of the police; be committed to the principles of Community Policing for better service delivery and public safety in the state,” said Adejobi.
