The Osun State House of Assembly will dedicate a prayer session today, Monday, 24th August, 2020 to mark the birthday of its Speaker, Timothy Adigun Oladiti Owoeye.

He is the fifth Speaker of the assembly, since the state’s creation on August 27, 1991.

Owoeye, a chieftain of the APC joined the assembly in 2007 on the platform of the Action Congress (AC). Four years later, he was minority leader.

The Ilesa-born Owoeye ran a second time in 2011 on the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) platform and was elected the leader of the assembly for four years, The Nations reports.

“The story was not different in 2015 when he ran again as member representing Ilesa East for the third time under the umbrella of the APC and was made the majority leader of the House of Assembly,” said Oladiti’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Alabi, in a statement yesterday.

He added: “As a representative with a deep knowledge of the legislative terrain strengthened with the support of his people, the story was not different in 2015 when he ran again as member representing Ilesa East for the third time under the umbrella of the APC and was made the majority leader of the House of Assembly.”

On June 6, 2019, the seventh assembly elected Owoeye as its Speaker.

According to Alabi, the assembly has passed nine bills into laws, both executive and private member bills in the past one year of his (Owoeye’s) Speakership, said The Nations.

He added: “The 7th Assembly under the watch of Owoeye has also passed many resolutions that are developmental in nature, for the people of the state.

“Apart from this, it has from time to time played the role of a mediator between the government and the people for the sake of fairness, justice and equity.”

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has congratulated former House of Assembly Speaker and ambassador-designate Bello Adejare as he marks his 59th birthday today (yesterday).

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, the governor hailed Adejare for his contributions to the development of Ede in particular and the state in general.

He described the Ede-born politician as a patriotic Nigerian, an experienced and diligent lawmaker, a grassroots politician and a committed party man.
