The Ogun State Government says it has embarked on the rehabilitation and equipping of public hospitals.

The government added that it recruited 750 health workers towards effective health care delivery in the state.

The state governor, Dapo Abiodun, stated these at the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association which ended in Abeokuta, the state capital, last Thursday.

Abiodun stressed that the state government was putting in place appropriate policies and programmes towards providing effective medical services in the state.

He said, “We have embarked on the rehabilitation and equipping of state hospitals. We are required to provide medical equipment and adequate staffing of Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital to serve as an effective referral centre for the lower tiers of health care centres.

“The reequipping of the OOTH is to strengthen it as a tertiary health institution. Also, there is the designation of hospitals across the three senatorial districts as specialist centres, and we are working at equipping them to meet that designation.

“The state government has embarked on retraining of more medical personnel. Also, till date, the state has recruited 750 health workers, including consultants, to bolster health care delivery.”

The state NMA Chairman, Dr Oladayo Ogunlaja, said the meeting was strategic to further prepare medical personnel for the fight against COVID-19, urging state governors to desist from owing medical personnel.
