Nigerians react as Lagosians disregard social distancing, transport guidelines

Nigerians have reacted to videos trending on social media which shows Lagosians struggling to board the Bus Rapid Transport, BRT, and also gain entrance into banks as the lockdown in Lagos got eased on May 4, 2020.

Dr Frederic Oladeinde, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, had ordered operators of commercial buses and private car owners to carry below their normal capacity to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

“Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Lagos Bus Services Ltd (LBSL) must not convey more than 21 passengers, must not permit standing in their buses and should keep the air-conditioning systems switched off always.

“In the same vein, while private car owners must also observe the physical distancing,” Oladeinde added.

However, the order was disregarded by Lagosians who trampled on each other in an attempt to gain entrance into the buses.

Videos also surfaced showing Lagosians disregarding social distancing guidelines as they struggled to gain entrance into banks in the city.
