Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has urged Nigerians to endure the lockdown period which will not be lifted anytime soon.

Ihekweazu stated this while speaking at the daily press briefing organized by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.

The NCDC DG who acknowledged the effect the lockdown is having on the economy stated that the lockdown period will eventually be over.

He said, “We will eventually exit this stage and restart our normal life but that stage is still a while to come and I ask for your endurance, support and patience. Lots of efforts are going on across the world to find new therapy, to find vaccines.”

Ihekweazu also advised Nigerians to continue to adhere to guidelines given by health authorities so that the country can get to a point whereby some of the restrictions brought about by the lockdown order can be relaxed.
