The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, says he is unofficially a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the only reason he hasn't joined the PDP is that he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reacting to questions about why he was supporting the APC governorship candidate in Edo when he appeared on Arise TV’s morning show on Friday, the deputy governor maintained that his spirit had left the PDP.
“In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support whoever you like and you can belong to any political party,” Shaibu said.
Shaibu, who was reinstated by a Federal High Court in Abuja months after he was impeached by the state assembly, also disclosed that he hasn't been paid his salaries and allowances for over a year.
According to Justice Omotoso, the impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly was illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void.
The court held that the said impeachment was in gross violation of the provisions of both sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
