Market in Lagos set on fire as hoodlums clash; drug den discovered

Reports indicate that several people were injured after hoodlums clashed in the Ile-Epo, Abule Egba area of Lagos.

It was gathered that a fight broke out in the market area on Wednesday night, May 1, 2024 and continued till Thursday morning.

In a video circulating, some shops were set on fire and goods were destroyed in the process.

A fire service truck that entered into the market in the early hours of Thursday was forced to reverse after being pelted with stones.

After police intervention, the hoodlums were restrained.

According to the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Odo, over fifty suspects in connection with the clashes were apprehended, and the shanties they occupied were demolished, effectively dislodging them from their illicit activities.

“Over fifty suspects have so far been arrested while the shanties they occupied have been destroyed, effectively dislodging them,” the statement read.

As the police tried to restore peace, law enforcement officers stumbled upon a hidden drug den that had been operating in plain sight.
