The Lagos State Government has warned residents forming vigilante groups in the state against making bonfires by burning tyres on the road.

Since the COVID-19 lockdown period was declared, many residents in Lagos have been complaining of an increase in robbery attacks.

Some areas like Ogba, Surulere etc have received threats from a popular robbery gang known as One Million Boys.

This has led to the residents forming vigilante groups to protect their neighbourhoods which has seen them make bonfires with tyres on tarred roads in the state.

Reacting to their actions, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, warned against it saying it could destroy the asphalt used in constructing the tarred roads.

”Burning of tires directly on the roads where taxpayers’ money has been expended is unpatriotic and environmentally hazardous.

”More importantly, it compromises the integrity of the pavement and overall riding surface, especially now that the rains are about to commence,” she said.
