Just In: Ekiti state govt announces 8pm to 6am curfew

The Ekiti government has imposed a curfew on the state amid fears of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Akinbowale Omole, the commissioner for information and values orientation made the announcement Monday, January 11, in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

He added that the curfew begins on the same day.

According to Omole, the alarming rate at which the second wave of coronavirus is spreading as the reason for declaring a curfew.

The southwest state in addition to restricting movement also banned all gatherings of more than 20 people until further notice.

Confirming the development, the official Twitter handle of the state government posted: "The Government of Ekiti State has imposed a curfew from 8.00 pm to 6.00 am and as well banned all gatherings of more than twenty people in the state until further notice. These restrictions take effect Monday 6 am January 11, 2021."

At the time of this report, data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) shows that Ekiti state has 434 cases and seven deaths.
