An illegal cream repackaging factory has been discovered by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency.

The agency’s Chief Public Affairs Officer, Bola Ajao, in a statement, said the factory was located in the backyard of a two-storey building in the Owode Onirin axis of the Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.

The LASEPA General Manager, Dolapo Fasawe, was quoted to have said the agency officials faced resistance from security guards on the premises.

“Our officials, on the first visit, were refused entry and could not access the property due to strong resistance from the guards who claimed the premises were private property and occupants were unavailable at the time of visit.

“We, however, discovered during our second visit that the building, which sits atop four plots of land with a valid address, housed an illegal scrap yard that engages in nefarious activities such as storage of unwholesome processed foods, repackaging of drugs and juice drinks, improper destruction of expired drugs, chemicals, recycling of metals, as well as dismantling of electrical and electronic waste within the premises.

“It is worrisome to note that people operate unlawfully in a residential environment unchallenged by neighbours. Individual selfish interests must not be allowed to supersede communal benefits. We must be mindful of who we are allowing into our neighbourhood and the consequences of our actions on society,” the statement added.
