INEC to deploy 20,000 ad-hoc staffs ahead of Edo polls

20,000 staff would be deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 20,000 staff would be deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

The Technical Advisor of INEC, Professor Bolade Eyinla, has revealed 20,000 staff would be deployed by the commission ahead of the upcoming elections in Edo.

Eyinla also noted that a larger percentage of the number of the ad-hoc staff would be made up of corps members, Vanguard reports.

He added that the remaining workers would be selected from the INEC ad-hoc recruitment portal.

“The youth corps members will constitute the larger percentage because they will be deployed mostly as presiding officers. The online recruitment is essential to create a database of election workers toward the conduct of the election,” he said.

This is coming after the electoral body disclosed that it has shelved the idea of suspending the governorship election after political parties complied with its notice over threats of violence, according to Vanguard.

He assured Nigerians that the September 19 Edo governorship election will go ahead as planned.

The INEC official said that the commission has observed that political parties toned down from the threats of violence ahead with the poll.
