FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that only candidates who support President Bola Tinubu will receive his backing during the FCT Area Councils’ election.
He made this known on Saturday, February 14, during Senator Sandy Onor’s 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, as the councillorship and chairmanship elections slated for Saturday, February 21, 2026, draw near.
According to the former Rivers State governor, he owes no apology for supporting Tinubu and will only align with candidates who support his principal, irrespective of their political affiliation.
Wike said he will support only candidates who are aligned with Tinubu, regardless of their political party.
“We have the FCT Area Council election coming up on February 21, and I have a duty to support any candidate who supports President Tinubu to win,” he said.
Residents of the FCT will choose chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and 62 councillors representing 68 constituencies across the six area councils. The IReV portal has been deployed for real-time viewing of results to enhance transparency.
